  1. Is Roderigo helping Iago due to his nobleness or for his love for Desdemona?
In my opinion Roderigo is helping Iago mostly due to his love for Desdemona. Iago only knows he can use Roderigo to get Cassio fired because of Roderigo's infatuation with Desdemona. Iago thinks,"Roderigo whom love hath turned almost the wrong side out, to Desdemona hath tonight caroused"(85). Iago only talks about Desdemona with Roderigo because he knows that that is enough to convince him to do anything. For this reason, I believe Roderigo only is participating and telling on Cassio because of his love for Desdemona.

  2. Do you think that Iago is angry at Othello because he gave Cassio the lieutenant position or due to the fact that Othello took his wife from him.
In my honest opinion I think that Iago going through all of this work just to turn on Othello is not just based on a position that he failed to receive. Iago is in a deep hatred for Othello because of the simple fact that he believed that Othello slept with his wife and he actually says this in the book. In text it states, " And nothing can or shall content my soul Till I am evened with him, wife for wife Or, failing so, yet that I put the Moor At least into a jealousy so strong that judgement cannot cure" (79). This quote shows that Iago's intent for doing all of this is because Othello took his wife and he will not stop untill he takes Othello's wife or makes Othello so jealous that he can't stand it anymore.

  3. Why is Iago able to manipulate Cassio so easily now since he lost his position as the lieutenant?

Iago is able to manipulate Cassio so easily now since he lost his position as the lieutenant because he feels like he has lost his reason for living. Iago plan was to get Cassio drunk. Since he knew that Cassio acts very wild when he is drunk. Iago was sure that this was the best way to get Cassio expunge from his position. And while Cassio is upset about the way he had behave in the celebration of Othello's marriage, Iago set him up by saying how he should get closer to Desdemona to get his position back. Which sound like a pretty good idea if you were in that situation right now. However, on the other hand Iago is saying to Othello's how Cassio is getting very close to Desdemona like he his in love with her and steal her from Othello. So that give Othello a reason to be suspicious about Cassio. Leaving Iago satisfied, for the moment and closer to his goal of revenge. In ACT.2.SC.3. Iago explains how Desdemona has the highest power since she has his highest love. Anything that she ask for he will do for her. Othello cannot resist saying no to his lovely wife. Iafo says this plan is the best way to get what he needs back. "Iago: Our general's wife is now our general: I may say so in this respect, for that he hath devoted and given up himself to the comtemplation, mark and denotements of her parts and graces. Confess yourself freely to her. Importune her help to put you in your place again."(103). This explains how Iago ia able to manipulate Cassio so easily now since he lost his place as the lieutenant. Cassio believe that Iago is helping him get his position back as a lieutenant, but there are blind to see his true madness when they see who was really behind the whole plot in the end of the play. Iago plan show how jealously and hatred can transform people into demons.

    1. I believe that Iago is able to manipulate Cassius so easily now that he has lost his position because now Cassius is desperate and wants help. Because Cassius no longer have the position as a lieutenant because of Iago's rumor that Cassius is an alcoholic, Cassius seems miserable without his job, and he will do anything to get it back. In the scene, Iago persuades Cassius to speak with Desdemona to try to convince her to tell Othello to give him back his position, but Iago sets this plan up sneakily. Iago will use anyone to weaken general Othello and one way to weaken him his to use his wife as a target. Iago uses Cassius to speak with Desdemona so that Iago can tell Othello that his wife is flirting. This will make it seem like Cassius is unfaithful to Othello and this is what Iago wants. Iago will use anyone as a target to manipulate and because Cassius lost his job and is depressed, he is an easy target for Iago to use.

    2. I agree, Iago is able to easily manipulate Cassio because at this point Cassio is desperate. Since Cassio lost his position as Othello's lieutenant, he is willing to do whatever it takes to get his job back. Iago knows that he has Cassio in the palm of his hands so he is going to take advantage of the situation. He says to Cassio, "Our general's wife is now the general... Confess yourself freely to her," (lines 333-338). Iago is basically ordering his steps to put his plan in place. He deceives Cassio because not only is Cassio vulnerable, but Iago is shady and selfish. Iago knew that he would be able to easily manipulate Cassio, that is why he takes advantage of this opportunity.

  4. How does Iago covers he devious tricks?

Iago covers his devious tricks by using everyone around him to make them look like the bad guy. In the book Iago out smart people and manipulates them for his benefit. When Montano was stabbed , Iago changed the atmosphere with his long speech and even quotes " as men in rage strike those that wish them best"(97). This quote right here makes Iago seems as if Montano deserved what happened to him. By this Iago keeps himself looking innocent to his devious plan

    1. I agree with Mirandah that Iago covers his devious tricks by using the other characters around him to make them look bad and make himself look innocent and harmless. When Othello is talking to Montano he says, "I had rather have this tongue cut from my mouth,Than it should do offence to Michael Cassio.Yet I persuade myself to speak the truth
Shall nothing wrong him". Even though Iago is manipulative and majority of times in the play he did start issues he makes himself look honest and innocent. He pushes many of the characters to dislike other characters because of his lies and his devious tricks, but in the end it is Iago who is doing the backstabbing to others.

    2. I agree with mirandah because Iago made cassio loose his job for his own benefit by encouraging Iago to drink knowing that Iago is a bad drunk and he cant handle his liquor. Iago tells Cassio he wants him to drink with him cassio says no but Iago continues to ask cassio if he wants a coup of wine knowing he's a bad drunk." I have a stoup of wine; and here without are a brace of cyprus gallants that would fain to have a measure to the health of black othello" (83). Iago knows that cassio doesn't drink but he will do whatever he has to to get him to loose his job . Due to the fact that Iago wanted the job and Ohello gave cassio the job Iago will do what it takes to get him in trouble.

  5. How does Cassio differ from Iago in their opinions about society?

Iago seems to care less about the opinions of the people in his society whereas Cassio cares way more. Cassio lives to impress the people. He complains to Iago that "O' [he has] lost [his] reputation. [He has] lost the immoral part of [himself], and what remains is bestial" (99). Iago responds, "Reputation is an idle and most false imposition, oft got without merit and lost without deserving" (99). In this conversation, we become aware that Iago doesn't think society's judgement matters much more than you're own, whereas Cassio thinks he will die without a good judgement from the people around him. This is a big difference between the two's outlook on the world around them. Cassio lives for others while Iago lives for himself.

  6. Why does Iago say "Rather have my tongue cut" ?

Iago has a plan and, if he wants to continue his plan to get back at Othello for supposedly sleeping with his wife. Iago will stop at nothing to reach his goal. In the book, Iago is manipulates everyone in the play to his favor and benefits. By telling lies about everyone and also using others income to help reach his outcome. Cassio seems to be in trouble and Iago realize he may be the only one to help him butt, he decides not to. The author states, 'I rather have this tongue cut from my mouth Than it should be an offense to Micheal Cassio" (97). Iago will rather remove his own tongue than help Cassio because, he believes his goal is more important.

    1. I agree with mahdee. At the same token in the act, after he blamed cassio for the fight breaking out and saying that "[he] rather have [his] tongue cut off"(97) he helps cassio by
Telling him how to get his job back. He tells him to talk to desdamona and he shall have a job again. Iago makes this statement above about getting his tongue cut off due to the fact that he doesn't wanna blame anybody and have problems, but he also has a mission in mind at the same time that he doesn't want to jeopardize for nobody else.

  7. Is Rodrigo helping Iago just to help him or because he believes he really has chance at Desdemona's love?

I believe Rodrigo is helping Iago because he believes he has a chance at taking Desdemona from Othello. In the story Iago tells Rodrigo many times if he wows her with money and gifts. He'll win her over but, in the back of his mind Iago knows that Rodrigo has no chance at Desdemona but, Rodrigo continues to try because he is blinded by love. The author states, "I will do this, if you can bring it to any opportunity" (79). Rodrigo explains to Iago that if he can help him get Desdemona he will help him with any plan he has. That's why I believe Rodrigo is only helping because his love driven.

  8. Why does everyone put so much trust and faith in Iago?

Iago is the root cause of everything that is going wrong in their kingdom, yet he is the one everybody is choosing to trust. When the fight broke out, othello went straight to Iago to ask who started the fight, and when he said it was Cassio, Othello didn't question it. He just took his word for it. Then Rodrigo sold all of his possessions because Iago told him to do so. Now Cassio is going to try and convince Desdemona to convince Othello to give him his job back because Iago says that it is a good idea. Why can't people see his manipulative ways.

    1. To answer her question everybody put so much trust into lago because he makes people believe that he is on there side but he basically just wants everybody to do what he saids . For example at the party he got cassio drunk on purpose . It states " Come , Lieutenant i have a stoup of wine " (83) although cassio already had a cup lago persuded him to drink more which made him more happy because it goes right along with his plan. He gets cassio drunk , roderigo is already drunk he is very much postive that when cassio gets drunks he will do something crazy to get him in trouble and thats excatly what he did. So everyone trust lago because he is very manipulative nad people actually fall for it. This is wrong but lago knows excatly what he is doing .

  9. What do you think will happen to Othello and Desdemona's relationship?

Othello and Desdemona might come to an end in the middle of this novel because of the venomous lie that Iago claims. Iago will tell Othello that Cassio is having an affair with Desdemona. This will cause trouble for Cassio and Desdemona. In the text it says," draw the Moor apart. And bring him jump when he may Cassio find soliciting his wife"(107). This shows that Othello and Desdemona's relationship is in danger, and might even consider a separation.

    1. I believe that Othello and Desdemona's relationship will begin to crumble in the novel because of the devious tricks that Iago is doing. In the play, Iago is trying to destroy Desdemona and Othello's marriage by making up lies about Desdemona. When Desdemona is talking to Cassius about his job, Iago decided to tell a lie to Othello saying, "Cassio, my lord! No, sure, I cannot think it,That he would steal away so guilty-like,Seeing you coming". Iago knows that Cassius and Desdemona are talking about Cassius's position with his
job but he wants to start trouble. Iago wants to weaken Othello by taking his wife away from him and he will do this in any way even if he has to lie about certain things. Throughout the play, Iago will deceive many of the characters to get what he wants and he will do this with Desdemona's and Othello's marriage

  11. How will Iago get Cassio in trouble with the people of Cyprus?

Iago will get Cassio in trouble with the people of Cyprus by making him do something that might offend them. Iago is so jealous of Cassio because he thinks that Cassio is better than him. In the book Iago says, "And they watch too now ’mongst this flock of drunkards am I to put our Cassio in some action that may offend the isle"(85). This shows that Iago will plan something upon Cassio that will make him look bad and be the most hated person in Cyprus.

    1. To answer ziana's question, iago will get Cassio in trouble with the people of Cyprus by manipulating Cassio into drinking and spreading a rumor that Cassio is always drunk. Iago plans to get the people of Cyprus upset because they can't have a drunk lieutenant. Iago is playing Cassio into thinking that he's his friend but iago really just wants Cassius spot. In the play it says " but is he often thus? 'Tis evermore the prologue to his sleep. He'll watch the horologue a double set if drink rock not his cradle" (89). Saying that iago intends to spread a rumor that Cassio is a drunk in order for him to get fired by othello so that he can take the spot that he always wanted.

  12. Why does Cassio turn down a glass of wine from Iago?

In my opinion I believe that Cassio turns down a glass of wine because he tends to go overboard when he drinks. He probably doesn't want his past of drinking a lot to become present. In the text Cassio says,"I have drunk but one cup tonight, and that was craftily qualified too, and behold what innovation it makes here I am unfortunate in the infirmity, and dare not task my weakness with any more"(85). This shows that Cassio was probably a drunk or alcoholic before whenever he had too much to drink. That's probably the reason why Cassio didn't want to drink another glass of wine. Whenever he drinks he probably becomes a totally different person.

  13. How does Iago constantly try to maintain his reputation throughout the play?
In the play Iago tries to maintain his reputation as "a good person" by pretending he is innocent when he is a manipulator. There was a fight between Cassius and Montano which began because of Iago telling Rodrigo that Cassius had a drinking problem. When the fight is over, Othello wants to know what happened and Iago said, "I do not know". He is trying to protect his reputation from being ruined by Othello so he does not take any responsibility for the fight when the fight was his fault because he started the rumor about Cassius. Even though Iago is very manipulative in the play and instigates a lot of the problems, he easily fends for himself and protect his reputation by pretending he is innocent.

  14. what is cassio explainig to lago about his " reputation "?

Cassio is explaining to lago that he no longer has an reputation because of his actions. In the text it states " Reputation , reputation , reputation ! O , i have lost my reputation!"(99) The reason why he is saying this is because he no longer have a job because he decided tp get drunk and fight at the party . Ohtello was not pleased so he decides to fire cassio on the spot. Now cassio is explaining to lago that he is no longer on good terms with othello he is jobless and he has lost the " immortal " of hiself which means he lost what was important to him. Lago is trying to tell him that othello was in a bad moos but cassio doesnt wanna hear it he ruined everything for himself now .

  15. Why is Roderidgo so easily manipulated by Iago throughout the play so far?
I think that Roderigo is so easily influenced by Iago so far in the play so far because Iago understands that he has an advantage over Roderigo to make him do as he says. Iago wants Othelllo to pay for giving Sir Cassio the lieutenant role over him and the only way he can think of getting him back is by getting to the one Othello loves which is Desdemona. Roderigo also is in love with Desdemona and that is the flaw in which Iago exploits to get Roderigo to do as he is told. In the text it says, " Your daughter, if you have not given her leave, I say again, hath made a gross revolt, tying her beauty, wit, and fortunes, in a extravagant and wheeling stranger"(17). This shows how he could lie to her father because he is that much in love with her and will try to be with her no matter what he has to do and Iago knows this and uses this to his advantage.

    1. to add to Masai's response , Roderigo is easily manipulated by Iago because his focus is in getting Desdemona. He is gullible to Iago's words because he thinks it's helping him get closer to the one he loves. Iago finds a way to use Roderigo's obsession to fake a fool out of himself and follow through with Iago's schemes. Iago tells Roderigo "but we have reason to cool our raging motions ... Unbitted lusts-- whereof I take this that you call love to be a sect"(51). He's telling Roderigo to use his brain instead of his head to get to Desdemona , but in actuality he doesn't have a chance because she's madly in love with Othello.

  16. How is Iago able to play both sides and appear to be a friend to Cassio and Othello?

Cassio now views Iago as a "friend" because he gave him "advice" on how to get his job back and earn his reputation. However, before the advice Iago made it seem like to the crowd he wasn't snitching on Cassio but told Othello Cassio started the fight. Making Othello view Iago as a noble friend and helper. Iago states to Othello after the fight, " My lord, I would I might entreat your honor. To scan this thing no farther. Leave it to time. Although 'tis fit that Cassio have his place- for sure he fills it up with great ability- Yet, if you please to (hold) him off awhile-" (135). To clarify, he is saying how Cassio is a good man, don't be too hard on him to Othello. Showing how Iago trying to appear to be friends to Cassio and Othello and trying to play both sides. Iago is very fake for trying to pretend to be friends with people he don't like in order to get what he wants.

  17. Iago plays both sides in this act ?

Iago plays both sides in act 2 because he tells Cassio and Roderigo a different story each other so he can lower his way into getting back at Othello for having sex with his wife. Iago plans to tell Roderigo that Cassio loves Othello's wife Desdemona which would heat Roderigo up to fight Cassio. Where Cassio and Roderigo fights in the scene and then Montano jumps in to fight Cassio. After the fight breaks out everybody around starts to fight then Othello comes in and talks to Cassio. Where Othello fires Cassio so Iago talks to Cassio and says "you should talk to Desdemona where she can probably help you win your job back." Iago plays both sides because of what he is doing to the people in the scene.

  18. Why does Iago both throw Cassio under the bus and then try to defend him ?

Iago is jealous that Othello chose Cassio to be his lieutenant instead of himself. Cassio gets into a fight with Montano and Roderigo, and Othello asks who started the fight. Cassio says: "I had rather have this tongue cut from my mouth than it should do this offense to Michael Cassio. Yet I persuade myself to speak the truth" (97). Iago wants Cassio's lieutenancy, and makes it appear to Othello that he doesn't want to incriminate Cassio but he must tell the truth.

  19. why is roderigo so trusting Iago?
Roderigo is very trusting of Iago because he believes Iago could help him get Desdemona his one true love. A person will do anything for love they will even give up their money if that will win the person over. Since the beginning of the play Iago has convinced Roderigo that he could take desdemona even though everyone knows that she is in love with othelllo. Iago has made roderigo his fool by using his money and his heart for desdemona to get what he wants.Iago made roderigo put all the money he has into Iagos hands. "Go to, farewell. put money enough in your purse " (53). Iago is using roderigo o get his money by telling him that he will get desdemona and roderigo is a fool and he believes him hich gives iago power over roderigo.

  20. What is Iago’s plan to do at the end of Act 2 Scene 3
Iago’s is going to make Othello believe that Desdemona is having an affair with Cassio in hopes to break them up. Iago possibly desires to make Othello feel the way he felt when he was cheated on. Iago says, “Two things are to be done. My wife must move for Cassio to her mistress. I’ll set her on. Myself the while to draw the moor apart and bring him jump when he may Cassio find soliciting his wife”(107). Iago is going to set up Desdemona so that’s she can be attracted to Cassio. Iago will set Desdemona and Cassio up so that Othello will catch them together. Othello will think that they are having an affair and he will be devastated. Seeing Othello defeated will please Iago and make him feel as though he got his revenge. Othello would possibly regret not believing Brabantio when he said that Desdemona may betray him as she did her father.

  21. Why did Othello lose respect for Cassio?
Othello lost respect for Cassio after Cassio for drunk and began fighting. Not only did the fight interrupt Othello's intimate with his wife for the first time, Cassio wan't handling himself as a lieutenant would. Based on an excerpt from the text it states, "Thy honesty and love doth mince this matter, making it light to Cassio. Cassio, I love thee, but nevermore be officer of mine"(97). Othello was fed up and couldn't give a pass to Cassio for his behavior. Although Cassio was set up to be drunk which led to him fighting, Othello did not want to hear it.

  22. Why does Cassio find his reputation so important?
Honor is like a way of life for Cassio. Cassio wants others to view him as a well respected lieutenant. When his rank was stripped from him by Othello, he feels as though he's shamed himself. "I have lost the immortal part of myself, and what remains is bestial" (99). He's saying that his honorable reputation wont be remembered and that he will be remembered as someone negative. Cassio finds reputation important to him because, he wants to be recognized through generations as an honorable man.

  23. Why Cassio so upset about having a bad reputation now?

I think that he upset about having a bad reputation now because he was like in charge and now he not because of his drinking problem and his action with fighting with Montano. Cassio feels bad about this because he had interrupted Othello and his wife time together. His reputation is very important to him because he was the lieutenant and now he no longer have that position anymore. In the text it states " I remember a mass of things, but nothing distinctly; quarrel, but nothing wherefore" (101). He know what he have done have messed up his reputation and he lost his job because of him being drunk, but now he is going to try to get his job back.

  24. Do you think Othello was right for firing Cassio ?

I believe Othello was right for firing Cassio as his lieutenant after finding out he was fighting with Roderigo in public. Cassio had a few drinks that night, which caused him to not be in his right state of mind. Cassio should have known better though, because he knew the position he had and what's expected of him. He also represented Othello, so Othello felt ' embarrassed to find out that Cassio was fighting with someone. Othello states, "I love thee, but nevermore be officer of mine" (97). Othello had to give up Cassio's position as his lieutenant because of the negative activities he allowed himself to be apart of. Othello felt like because he was drunk and fighting in front of everyone, Cassio was not right person for the position. Therefore, Othello had every right to fire Cassio for what he have done.

  26. Why was Othello upset about the fight in which had taking place ?

Othello was upset about the fight because he believed that the characters was acting belligerent and he wanted them to stop fighting and handle the situation in a new way. In the novel Othello was curious about who started the fight and why. He asked everyone what happened and why they are acting as savages. Othello men was fighting aggressively and displayed a war in progress. He didn't believe acting wildly was the way to go at that moment in the fight scene. He states, " Why, how now, ho! From whence ariseth this? Are we turned Turks? And to ourselves do that. For Christian shame, put by this barbarous brawl. What is the matter, masters?— Honest Iago, that looks dead with grieving, Speak, who began this? On thy love, I charge thee" (lines 135-140). Othello seen his men acting out violently. He didn't want them to act in such a matter over foolishness. He wanted to solve the conflict in a different way which is why he was upset about the fight.

Why is Othello upset with Cassio ?

Othello is upset with Cassio & fired him because he loses respect for Cassio after the fight. Othello had to leave Desdemona to go and find out what was happening, so he was already upset. When he gets to his men they tell him Cassio starts the fight. Othello says, "Thy honesty and love doth mince this matter, making it light to Cassio. Cassio, I love thee, but nevermore be officer of mine". Othello was furious at Cassio and couldn't tolerate his behavior.

Why is Cassio so upset towards the end of the scene ?

Cassio is upset at the end of the scene because he feels he has soiled his rep. After the fight, Othello fires Cassio as his lieutenant. As Cassio is weeping, Iago goes to speak with him. Cassio says, "O' I have lost my reputation. I have lost the immoral part of myself, and what remains is bestial" II.2.99. Cassios reputation is important to him. He is so upset because he feels like the one thing that will live on after he dies is ruined.

why did Iago get Cassio drunk if he knows he has a drinking problem?

Iago got Cassio drunk because he wanted to make fun of him. While Cassio was drinking Iago told Montano that he doesn't think he should have a lot of responsibility. after the fight Iago told Cassio to talk to desdemona about getting his spot with Othello. Meanwhile Iago is tell Othello Cassio is talking to his wife. In the text it says" Hey Othello , Cassio is been talking to your wife a lot lately , what's that about?"(155). Iago was basically setting Cassio up and because Cassio wanted to be important to Othello, he did anything to be important.

why was Cassio and Montano fighting?

Cassio and Montano was fighting because Cassio felt like everyone was taking his place when it came to Othello. In the text it say "Cassio shouldn't have all these responsibility for someone with a drinking problem"(140). this shows that montano was mad because Cassio had a lot of power and he didn't think it was fear. Therefore he felt as thou he should act on it.

Question: Based on the scene covered in class and the book, how do you think Iago is being manipulative towards Othello?
Answer: A way in which I think that Iago is being manipulative towards Othello is by not allowing himself to fully tell Othello who is to blame for the fight that was going on. In Act 2, Scene 3, Iago was talking to Roderigo telling him to start a fight with Cassio at the celebration so that when everyone sees Cassio fighting with Roderigo, he would be seen as the bad guy. The text states, "But, sir, be you ruled by me. I have brought you from Venice. Watch you tonight. For the command to anger Cassio, either by speaking too loud, our tainting his discipline, or form what other course you please, which the time shall more favorably minister...I had rather have this tongue cut from my mouth Than it should do offense to Michael Cassio" (77-97). This quote shows how not only Iago planned for Cassio to get into a fight with Roderigo, but he manipulated the whole situation by telling Othello that he rather not say Cassio started the fight because he is trying to not destroy his reputation and that he is a good person. Making it seem like he actually cares about Cassio when he don't at all. And through it all, Othello believes Iago when he says Cassio started the fight when in all reality he did.

Question: Why do you think that Othello was mad at Cassio after finding him in the middle of a fight?
Answer: I think that Othello was mad at Cassio because of the fact that his fighting had disturbed his and Desdamona's intimacy with one another. During this time in the book and within the scene covered in class, Othello was about to have sex with Desdamon,a as his wife for the first time. So when the fight broke out, Othello had to end his time with his wife to see what all the ruckus was about. I also think he was mad at Cassio because he mad Othello regret assigning him as the lieutenant. The text states, "Thy honesty and love doth mince this matter, Making it light to Cassio. Cassio, I love thee, But nevermore be officers of mine. Look if my gentle love be not raised up! I'll make thee an example" (97 & 99). This quote shows since Cassio fighting with the other men disturbed his time with his wife, and that he was proven wrong to allow Cassio to be the lieutenant and made a fool out of him, it is the real reason why Othello was so angry at Cassio.

I think that every will turn on Othello because they all seem to be listening to Iago. Iago started rumors about people, which caused Roderigo and cassia to fight. From that fight, Cassio gets fired by Othello, and Othello then slaps him, humiliating him in front of a large crowd. Now Cassio might hate Othello. Iago talks to Roderigo and makes him happy with good news. Now Roderigo will listen to whatever Iago has to say about Othello. Furthermore, both Roderigo and Cassio love Desdamona and Iago could eventually turn her against Othello. Her father also hates Othello. So I believe the climax of the play will be Othello being betrayed by everyone.

  31. TYIESHA:

Was Iago's plan of making Cassio drunk smart? Why?

Iago's plan of getting Cassio drunk was actually smart even though it was wrong. He was destined to make Cassio lose his position with being the lieutenant. While Iago was speaking with Cassio, Cassio made it clear that he has "very poor and unhappy brains for drinking" (II.III, pg83). He says how he doesn't have the strength to actually drink heavy like other people. With that being said, Iago knew that getting alcohol in Cassio's system was going to make him act extremely out of character. Iago's plan wasn't considerate, but it was smart enough where it got Cassio to lose his job as Iago wanted.

Did Othello have to go that far with firing Cassio?

Othello didn't have to really go that far. The only reason as to why he did that is because he was tired of the amount of patience he was giving out. He was entirely too optimistic to things he should've been on top of, which is why he stopped that by taking Cassio's job. He states, "my blood begins my safer guides to rule" (II.III, pg 95). Othello is tired of letting his actual emotion stay buried within while he keeps his composure. He showed his other side by stripping Cassio of his position. It wasn't necessary, but Othello didn't know the truth. He went off of what he heard & saw.

  32. Why won't othello agree with Desdemona to reinstate Cassio to be the lieutenant again?

Othello won't agree with Desdemona to reinstate Cassio to be the lieutenant again because Iago has manipulated with Othello's emotions and thoughts on Cassio and Desdemona suspicious action together. This finallyconvince him that they're in love with each other. Ever since Iago told Cassio to get closer to Desdemona so he can get his position back, Iago has been Othello false information about the two relations with each other. Unfortunately Cassio has listened to Iago and has been spotted by him with Desdemona a couple of times before. That make Iago job easier in getting Othello trust and loyalty since he giving him valueable information he needsto here. In act.3.sc.3. Iago explains how Othello must not be jealous because it will bring him down in getting Desdemona falling in love with Cassio. He must go against her word so that she can stop having certain feelings for Cassio now. "O, beware my lord, of jealousy! It is the green eyed monster which doth the meat it feeds on... why, why is this? Think's thou i'd make a life of jealousy, to follow still changes of the moon with fresh suspicions? No. To be once in doubt is once to be resolved."(129). This explains how Othello will not agree with Desdemona to reinstate Cassio to be the Lieutenant again. If Iago keep on controlling his mind that sooner or later Othello will soon come to the idea of trying to kill Desdemona and Cassio. Time waits for no man. When the characters start to opening their eyes to the plot of Iago has put onto them. It will be too late.

  33. do you think that iago is taking a huge advantage of all the schemes and frantics he's doing ?

actuallly i do think that iago is taking advantage of all the schemes and stuff he's doing to get back at cassio because in the long run i think iago shouldnt be mad at cassio he shpuld be mad othello but he doesnt really wnt to burn his bridged with othello just in case he get the job. but i think he was taking advantage because he started to use and bause cassio for all his money he was taking his money and using it and he knew that how to get cassio to use his money on something so worthless which was showing iago was using cassio and i think that its wrong because this man got offered a job that he didnt know could be yours you go and do all this bad and wrong doing to him which was wrong and then as being a grown man you are going around and spreading rumors about peoples wives and getting them also caught up into the situation which also was another frantic that he was doing and in the novel it states " though cassio did some little wrong to him, as men in rage strike those that wish them best, yet surely cassio i believe, recieved from him that fled some strange indignity which patience could not pass"(97). and this was showing how iago knew what he was doing and that this was all part of scheme and frantics because he wanted to try and get othello good side and this was his way of getting into things like this.

  34. Do you think Iago is Jealous of Othello?
I do think that Iago Is jealous of Othello beacuse he is trying to betray him and put him down. Its a rumor that Othello is sleeping with his wife Emilia but he doesn't know if its true so he going to go with the lies. He also didn't ask Othello if its true he is just acting normal, and acting as if he's loyal to Othello but really i'snt .Forexample in the text it states "Till Iam evened with him, wife for wife or failing so yet that i put the Moor at least into Jealousy so strong that judgment cannot cure"(79). This showing how Iago is jealous of Iago and is trying to hurt him out of spite. He is trying to mess up the relationship with him and Desdemona because he think Othello is messing with his wife but i think deep inside he know Othello is not he just want to cause problems and make Othello powerless. but really

  35. How does Iago act Two-faced toward Cassio?

Iago acts two faced toward Cassio because he basically dry snitches on him. First he gets him all drunk despite the fact that Cassio is not a heavy drinker. Then because Cassio is now drunk he picks a fight and ends up losing his job as lieutenant. when othello questions who is responsible for the fight Iago says, "Touch me not so near.I had rather have this tongue cut from my mouth.Than it should do offence to Michael Cassio.Yet I persuade myself to speak the truth.Shall nothing wrong him" ( ). Iago is saying your close to guessing who it is but i would never tell you it was Cassio. he basically tells without actually telling. he hints so hard that othello knows exactly who is the cause of the conflict.

  36. what is the usual change we see in Othello after the fight iago causes ?

othello is usually a really calm and collective type of guy, but after the fight he is highly upset. on this night it is his first night alone with desdemona and he has to e called away . this is one reason he is upset. then when he arrives he sees that his men are fighting each other which is never an ok thing. angered by the lack of answers on who started this othello says , "Now, by heaven. My blood begins my safer guides to rule. And passion, having my best judgment collied.Assays to lead the way "( ). othello lets everyone know he has had enough. he expresses his anger to them and lets them know he is highly upset and who ever did it will have to deal with the punishments that come along with it.

  38. In Iago soliloquy, in lines 429-434, what does he mean?

In lines 429- 434 Iago is referring to Othello sleeping with his wife. He has no true hard facts that point to his wife cheating on him with Othello. He wishes Revenge in Othello and he was just saying that he is going to do it whether he knew the truth or not. It says, "I know not if't be true" (55). Basically saying that he does not know if it is true. Iago has no true reason for why he hates Othello. Iago makes things up so he can have a reason to hate because he did not give him the lieutenant job. Therefore, Iago saying in his soliloquy that he seeks revenge on Othello for supposedly sleeping with his wife.
