  1. The woman is Willy's mistress. When "the women" says “I’ve been sitting at that desk watching all the salesmen go by, day in, day out. But you've got such a sense of humor, and we do have such a good time together, don’t we” (25)? Willy sees this woman every time he goes out of town. Willy states, "Oh, two weeks about. Will you come up again? .... Well, I'll see you next time I'm in Boston. (25)" This shows that Willy may not really be going to work because he's going to see the mistress. That's why he yells at his wife because he is stressed. So the woman is breaking up the marriage.

  2. Willy gets mad at Linda for mending the stocking because the lady always go to Willy's store and excites him and is going to help him sell the stocking and the fact that his wife is mending it makes him mad. This woman is Willy mistress. “I’ve been sitting at that desk watching all the salesmen go by, day in, day out. But you've got such a sense of humor, and we do have such a good time together, don’t we” (25)? This attitude contrast the previous scene because it stresses Willy. Linda comfort Willy when he is feeling unsure about himself by supporting him. "I'll make it all up to you, Linda, i'll Theres nothing to make up, dear. You're doing fine. better than--."(26) This reveal that they are very close and Linda will do anything to keep Willy happy and satisfied .

Linda comforts Willy by telling him that he isn't fat, and hes the most handsome man shes ever seen. When Willy starts to doubt himself Linda is there to lift his spirit back. "I'm fat. I'm very- foolish to look at, Linda.... To me you are. [slight pause.] The handsomest...And the boys, Willy. Few men are idolized by their children the way you are...There's nothing to make up dear. You're doing fine" (24-26). This reveals that Willy and Linda have a strong relationship and that Linda is like the back bone of Willy because of how supportive she is of him and he changed his mood to feeling insecure about himself to feeling good about himself again.

  4. Willy feels that no one would take him seriously because of his looks and his height, but Linda his wife is very affectionate with her husband Willy. If Willy has a certain problem then Linda is always their to comfort him and make him feel better. Willy describes how he feel's about himself but Linda disagrees with his perspective and say, " Willy darling you are the handsomest man in world" (24). By this statement it show's that Linda is very caring for her husband, and tells him what he wants to hear.

I think Willy gets upset that Linda is mending stockings because he probably does not want her fixing stocking that is already messed up . Willie probably think that theycan afford to get new stockings. He does not want Linda doing that because it can mean that they can't afford certain things, like stockings. It says, "I won't have you mending stockings inthis house! Now throw them out!" (26). Willy gets angry because it can remind him how business has not been running as fast as it should or how much money he should be making. It gets him angry and does not want Linda to feel they can afford to get her new stockings.

How does Linda comfort Willy when he is feeling unsure of himself? What does this reveal about their relationship?
Linda comforts Willy when he feels insecure by giving him a lot of compliments. She tells him how he is handsome regardless of he looks or how people see him after the years went by. In the text states, " You are, Willy. The handsomest man. You've got no reason to feel that-"(26). Linda is telling her husband, Willy how he shouldn't feel the way he do. She wants him to understand that he is beautiful both internal and external. Linda just wants her husband to feel confident. This shows that Linda will be with Willy until the wheels fall off. She loves her husband the way he is and there's nothing in the world that could change that about them.

  7. Willy is insecure because he feels like he is not at the top of his game like he used to. Willy has a flash back to a time when he was with another women and he says, "you pocked me, heh?" (Miller 25). Willy constantly asked the women did she choose him to assure him of his looks to woman. Because he doesn't feel secure enough to know it himself he has to find that reassurance in other people

Linda comforts Willy by telling him he is very handsome, and the best man she ever known. Linda comforts him like a mother most of the time, very supportive for him. When Willy is saying to Linda how he is fat and no good, she says to him, " You are, Willy. The handsomest man. You've got no reason to feel that-...There's nothing to make up, dear. You're doing fine, better than-" (26). Basically, Linda is comforting Willy by supporting him and making him feel good about himself. This hopefully helps Willy boost his confidence but in the end he is always going to contradict himself. Then Linda would have to like always complement him.

  9. In these pages Willy begins talking to a mysterious women that comes out of no where when he was talking to Linda. They seem to have a nice relationship unlike Willy and Linda, the mysterious women and Willys relationship seems fresh and fun and happy while Linda and Willy's seem boring and dull and like their both just there to be there. In the text on page 25 the mysterious women says to Willy, " I did. I've been sitting at that desk watching all the sales man go by, day in, day out. But you've got such a sense of humor, and we do have such a good time together, dont we? Willy: Sure, sure.; Why do you have to go now?" Willy seems to have more fun more with the woman then his own wife. I think the women is a mistress in one of the cities that he has been to and she keeps his mind off the stress

Willy gets mad at Linda for mending her stockings because he remembers giving The Woman alot of new stockings. The woman is one of Willy's buyers and is also his mistress. Willy is insecure because he says people don't like him. This contradicts what he said earlier because he said he was well liked where ever he went. Linda comforts him by telling him he is the handsomest man and that his kids idolize him.

  11. Willy gets mad at Linda for mending her stockings because he thinks that that shows that he can not afford the responsibility of buying his wife as many new pair of stockings as he would like which he thinks will show society that he can't play the role of being that "American Dream" dad because he isn't wealthy enough to provide luxuries for his family. In the text Willy tells Linda after she informs him that she is mending her stockings, " I won't have you mending stockings in this house! Now throw them out! "(26) This quote shows how pride plays a major role in the choices Willy makes for himself and his family. This shows that he has so much pride that he doesn't want his wife to wear old stockings that she has fixed up time after time in order to wear them because it makes him and the family look poor which is not typically the case for people who are or trying to live the "American Dream" which is what Willy wants his family to be depicted as in society.

The woman is Willy's mistress in the flashback where they are seen to be hugged up and kissing each other.Willy reminisce the time he had with the woman when Linda says "Willy, darling, you're the handsomest man in the world--," (24). Willy begins to day dream about the woman where he felt happy with the woman where he did not really worry about much when he was with her. Then coming back to life he begins to come back to life where Linda and him speaks about the money they have to pay and they have received.

  13. The women is Willy mistress. Willy and his mistress is discussing the next time they will see each other, and how they enjoy spending time together. The woman says, "I've been sitting at that desk watching all the salesmen go by, day in, day out. But you've got such a sense of humor, and we do have such a good time together" (25). the woman enjoy being with Willy because he is funny and they always have good times together. This shows how the women is starting to get attached to Willy and how she likes the way he acts. Willy says, "Well, I'll see you next time I'm in Boston" (25). Willy lets the mistress know that he will spend time with her when he leave town for business. This shows how when Willy says he going out of town for business he is really spending time with his mistress doing things that he shouldn't be doing with another women.

Linda comfort willy when he is feeling insecure of himself by telling him that he is a hsndsome , man. By linda telling him thid she is trying to boost his self esteem because he was putting him self down and ruining his self esteem. "To me you are.The handsomet." Linda tells willy that he is the most handsome man in hopes of making him feel better . I can tell that linda is always trying to please willy and she believes that this is her wifely duty . In which this conncets to the ameriacn dream beacause always had to stick by there husband and maintain a certain role .

Linda comforts Willy when he is feeling unsure of himself by constantly complimenting him and is very supportive. Willy constantly needs to be reassured of his looks or given compliments so that he can feel better about himself. As Willy comes to from his flashback about him and his mistress, Linda tells Willy, "You are, Willy. The handsomest man"(26). This shows that she constantly pays him compliments when he is feeling unsure of himself. This reveals that Linda is very supportive of her husband and is there for him when he needs her to be. This also shows how compassionate and affectionate she is towards Willy.

I think willy is upset about Linda mending her Stockings because he doesn't want it to seem like she cant buy new ones, willy is putting on a act like he has more then he really has for the sake of his kids but also for his self. willy doesn't want her to have to fix old stocking like she cant afford new ones because they are not supposed to be having money problems according to the idea of the american dream. " just mending stockings . they're so expensive . I wont have you mending stockings in this house ! throw them away. " The fact that she mentions the price shows that she knows they cant afford new ones but willy trying to pretend like his life is perfect gets upset and tells her to throw them away. Its like willy drifts back and forth from his fanatic life and reality through out the story

Linda comforts Willy when he's insecure of himself by telling all the positive things about him and she trys to give him complaints. I think that deep down she knows her husband is insecure and his trying his best to make ends meet and she reminds him of his role in the house as the man of the household. This shows that their relationship can be similar to a head cheerleader and a head quaterback. the cheerleader contiously cheers the quaterback in order for him to make a goal, and thats similar to how Linda is cheering her husband on so he can reach his goal.

  18. Willy gets upset with Linda because the stockings remind him of his affair with one of his buyers in Boston. Willy is so insecure because he always complains about himself being "fat" and "[joking] too much!"(24). His insecurities explains why he is so grumpy and depressed. No matter how much Linda tries to comfort him and do her job as a wife, his job is killing him slowly. He has sold his happiness and freedom. He is no longer the jovial person he used to be since he's been trying to achieve the American Dream.

  20. Who is "the woman" and what is her relationship with Willy?

While Willy is out of town, supposedly on business, he sees "The Woman". We have identified that "The Woman" is in fact Willy's Mistress, and escape from his problems at home. Willy is having a conversation with his wife, Linda, and they're bickering back and forth about Willy being "very liked" or "very well-liked", when he flashes back to one of the moments when he's with "The Woman". Willy yearns for "The Woman" when he's away on business, he even ask her "Will you come up again...Well, I'll see you next time I'm in Boston", insuring that she'll be able to accompany him the next time he's in town. "The Woman" is ultimately the character Willy runs to when he can't seem to get things right at home or work. She's his freedom away from sale, where he can relieve his stress without worrying about how much money he'll need to make at his next gig.

Willy is insecure about his outside appearance. He believes he is too fat, isn't the most handsomest, and is just seen as a joke to others because of this.He isn't as self assured as he pretends to be in the previous seen in front of his children. Death of a Salesman reads,"I'm fat. I'm very--foolish to look at, Linda...I know I gotta overcome it. I'm not dressing to advantage , maybe"(24). Clearly, Willy thinks less of himself. He doesn't believe that people respect him enough which differs from what he told his children in the previous scene. Earlier Willy stated,"Be liked and you will never want. You take me, for instance. I never have to wait in line to see a buyer. "Willy Loman is here!" That's all they have to know, and I go right through"(21).. Ultimately, Willy portrays two completely different people. In front of his children he appears to e happy, brave, well liked, and sure of him self whereas in front of his wife he appears to be more insecure about his appearance and his capabilities.

Pages(25-30) Willy is becomes very mad when Linda is mending the stockings because of how he can afford to give another woman stockings and his own wife has to repair used one's. This is showing how the American Dream can cause a man to do things or feel a way about certain situations when he is put in a that situation. In the text it states, "I'll make it up to you, Linda, I'll-"(26). This is showing how Willy feels terrible about how he is treating Linda compared to how he is treating the other woman. Willy is letting a situation affect how he feels because of this idea of the "American Dream".

Why does willy call charlie disgusting?

Willy calls charlie disgusting becuase that charlie doesn't know how to use certain tools to complete the ceiling that's why he calls him disgusting not able to handle tools is nothing. Willy and Charlie is playing cards and having a conversation about the old house with that, the conversation get heated to and Willy said confidently " A man who can't handle tools is not a man"(30).this explain how willy can only act with his own kind of explaination of being a man and what man do and how rhey become a man too.

Linda comforts Willy by keep complimenting on his insecurities and saying the kids look up to him. Willy just keep saying "I'm fat. I'm very---foolish to look at...(24)." While Linda compliments him by replying "Willy, darling, you're the handsomest man in the world... And the boys, Willy. Few men ore idolized by their children the way you are (24)." Thus explains how insecure Willy feels about himself and Linda comforts him by throwing him compliments and not making him feel so bad about himself.

  25. The woman is Willy's mistress. Willy doesn't feel like he gets all the love and support that he needs from his family, so he has to have a woman on the side that makes him feel much more appreciated. She says to him, "you do make me laugh. It's good for me. And I think you're a wonderful man"(Miller 25). Later in that page Willy asks if she picked him, and he says yes. The woman is a confidence booster for Willy. She makes him feel good, needed and appreciated.

Who is the "woman", and what is her relationship to Willy ?

The "woman" is Willy's mistress. Willy feels as though he needs attention from another woman because the attention he was getting from his family was insufficient. " I've been sitting at that desk watching all the salesmen go by,day in, day out. But you've got such a sense of humor, and we do have such a good time together, don't we ?" (25). The woman makes Willy feel important and pays mind to him. Willy felt as though he needed additional companionship, and so he sought out someone to fulfill his needs, which he has found in this woman.

  27. The woman is Willy's mistress. The women explains to Willy that she picked him. " I've been sitting at that desk watching all the salesmen go by day in and day out. But you've got such of humor, and we do have such a good time together"(25). This shows that the girl works at the building where the salesmen get their things from. She doesn't really give much attention to others but she gives it to Willy because of his personality. After meeting there, things started to get more serious. The woman asked Willy when would be the next time she sees him and he replies, " Well, I'll see you next time I'm in Boston" (25). Before the woman goes on, they kiss each other several times. Because of those interactions, I am forced to believe that the woman is Willy's mistress.

Willy reacts in an upset way when Linda mends her stockings because it reminds him of the affairs he had with “the woman” in the play. Linda’s actions cause him to feel guilt and leads to a flashback of him and the woman. In the flashback Willy questions the woman, “You picked me, heh?”(25). The woman reassures Willy, “Sure. Because you’re so sweet. And such a kidder” (25). This shows how Willy was insecure about himself both in the past and in the present. He was insecure in the past by asking the woman if she had really chosen him and he was insecure in the present by having cheated on Linda with another woman. Linda also gave Willy compliments showing her affection towards him which shows Willy's insecurities even deeper.

  29. Willy is in secure because he feels that he isn't good enough for his wife. Linda has to remind him that he has no flaws to boost his confidence. Linda says, "You are, Willy. Therefore, Linda plays apart in pointing out why Willy shouldn't be insecure.

Willy gets angry when he see's his wife Linda mending the stockings because of his guilt. Willy still has guilt from when he has had an affair with another women and brought he a pair of expensive stockings. When he see's his wife Linda trying to mend her stockings he shouts "wont have you mending stockings in this house! Now throw them out"(26). When he see's what Linda is doing he automatically gets angry and forces her to get rid of them. He feels guilty that he isn't able to provide for his wife as he provided for a women he had an affair with and thus it causes him to get upset

But he brought them for "The women" that he is messing around with knowing that he is married. For Willy to see Linda with the sockings he gets angry because he knew that was wrong for him to buy the women some instead of his own wife thats always been there for him. Since Willy was so upset seeing Linda grap the sockings he told her to put them down and never pick them up again. Willy was feeling guilty because he knew what he did was very wrong.

  32. Willy gets mad at Linda for mending stockings because it brings up his past. He was reminded of him giving stockings to his mistress and that made him upset. " I won't have you mending stockings in this house! Now throw them out!" (26). He showed this sense of anger because he most likely felt guilty about his past. How he has not yet showed much care for his wife as much as he did his other woman.

Willy becomes angry with Linda when she's mending stocking because, he's reminded of when he gave stockings to the "Other Woman" and Biff asked why he was giving away mom's stockings. Willy wants to start new and not have stuff mended. He wants to give Linda new stockings, so he's not reminded of the past he just wants Linda to throw them away "I won't have you mending stockings in this house! Now throw them out!"(26). He didn't want to see her mending no stockings.

Willy gets mad at Linda for mending her stockings because he feels guilty that his wife have to mend stockings to try to save money for her and her family; while Willy just brought his mistress brand new stockings the last time he saw her. “[coming out of THE WOMAN’S dimming area and gong over to LINDA] ‘I’ll make it all up to you Linda…I won’t have you mending stockings in this house! Now throw them out!’” (26). This shows that Willy feels guilty that his won wife has to struggle and he’s splurging our on a woman that’s only using him. It hurts him to see his wife struggle and he blames himself, that’s why he becomes so mad at Linda because of the stockings.

  36. How is Willy insecure? How does this attitude contrast with hia mood in the previous scene?

Willy is insecure about his overall apprarance and how it differs from the other men at his job. "Im fat. Im very--foolish to look at, Linda...I gotta overcome it. I know i gotta overcome it. Im not dressing to advantage,maybe"(24). Willy believes that if he looked better then he may be liked better at his job. He also thinks that he is fat and not very handsome which makes him seem very insecure about his appearance. This attitude contrasts with his earlier attitude because he spoke of himself as a well respected man at his job in front of his children. "You take me, for instance. I never have to wait in line to see a buyer. 'Willy Loman is here!' Thats all they have to know, and i go right through"(21). Willy Loman acts as two different characters. Among his children he has on a facade and acts as if he hasn't a care in the world whereas with his wife he is more vulnerable and open to talking about his genuine feelings.

The "women" that is being referred to in the book is Willy's mistress. Their relationship is good because she makes Willy feel confident in himself at all times and she also makes him feel wanted in life. In the book the women says, "Sure thing. You do make me laugh......Because you're so sweet. And such a kidder" (25). This shows that this can be Willy's mistress and the type of relationship they have. They both seem happy when they are with each other.

I think the relationship between Willy and "the woman" is mostly on the lines of sexual, I can infer that his wife doesn't know about this woman and that he's in town somewhere.
