  1. Why is Beatrice so nervous about taking the aptitude test?
The reason Beatrice is nervous about taking the test is because, she doesn't know what factions she will end up in or if she's even going to pass the test to get into any of the factions, and she'll have to live on the street. "What if they tell me that I'm not cut out for any faction? I would have to live on the streets, with the factionless"(pg20). Now that she have token the test she's more nervous about the choosing ceremony in the text on page 2 it says " Today is the day of the aptitude test that will show me which of the five factions I belong in. And tomorrow at the choosing ceremony I will decide on a faction I will decide for the rest if my life." I think this shows why Beatrice is so nervous because she doesn't know what to do.

  2. Is 16 the only age that these people can choose there faction ?

Sixteen is an age that shows the coming of age in this society. Beatrice states as she enters her school with her brother , " The atmosphere feels hungry, like every sixteen-year-old is trying to devour as much as he can get of this last day. It is likely that we will not walk these halls again after the Choosing Ceremony-once we choose, our new factions will be responsible for finishing our education." (5) She shows that at 16 people's lives change because the finally choose their own faction. They can either choose to stay in the one in which they were born or they can choose a new one at 16.

  3. Should one be loyal to its original Faction ?

When a person is ready to attend the Choosing Ceremony should they remain loyal to their original faction should they move on. I'm not really to sure, but I think that they should be able to move on without any regret or remorse from their past faction family. Beatrice States as her brother is entering his ceremony, " Caleb's name is called in the next group. He moves confidently toward the exit. I don't need to wish him luck or assure him that he shouldn't be nervous. He knows where he belongs, and as far as I know, he always has." Caleb didn't feel pressure from his surroundings to choose which faction he wanted to be in. He already knew which faction he belonged in, his current one.

  4. Why is the test given without the students being fully aware of what's going on ?

The students are unconscious while there having the faction test done. During the test Beatrice states to the Procter , " When they open, an instant passed, but I am somewhere else. I stand in the school cafeteria again, but all the long tables are empty... " During the testing the students are given a liquid to drink and are placed with wires. So then the to unconscious. Why aren't they allowed to be fully awake during this faction test.

    1. The test is being given to the students without them being fully aware of what's on it because; the test is to see where you belong. The aptitude test is a yearly assessment test I believe that determines the position of a child to one of the five traits. The traits is already inside you so there is nothing to student for, the test works through a simulation that initiates a response from a tester selecting from two different options. Those two options they place you in determines whether you belong in a faction or if you would be faction less that's why nobody can study for the aptitude test.

  5. Does this book show signs that a person can actually have controll?

In this part of the book. The students are goung threw training since the few students had made it threw the train jumping. They're now learning how to use weapons. Beatrice beings to get the hang of it. At first, she feels she was no controlled over what she is doing but, after the first five rounds she feels she has now gain controll. The book states, "It takes me five rounds to hit the middle of the target, and when I do, a rush of energy goes through me. I am awake, my eyes wide open, my hands warm. I lower the gun. There is power in controlling something that can do so much damage-in comtrollinf something period. Maybe I do belong here" (79). As Beatrice experience the feel to have control and have power that she yields. She believes she belongs where she is.

  6. Why Beatrice decides to get tattooed with others?

In this part of the book Beatrice wasnt planning on getting anything on her body because, she doesn't want to separate herself from her family back home. Then again, she believes by getting a tattoo is a fresh start for her and represent her family back home. In the book, "Divergent", By Verona Roth. Beatrice is a tattoo shop with her friends and seems to like a tattoo she has seen "The bird sketch holds my attention" (90). She finally decides to get the tattoo when she does its for a overall statement and meaning. The author states, "I touch my collarbone, marking the path of their flight-toward my heart. One for each member of the family I left beside" (90). She doesn't get the tattoo because it looks nice or she wants to. She marks her body for a reason to remind her where she came from amd what she left behide home, which is her family.

  7. Tania Wilson:

I think the reason as to why they take the test while they are a sleep is to see how they would really move through out the situations. When she was taking the test and she was debating on weather or not she wants to lunge at the dog or get to it's level so the dog won't feel intimidated. on page 15 "I stretch my legs out behind me and lean on my elbows". By her thinking this out it would help the determine which placement she can choose from.

    2. Beatrice is so nervous about taking the test because she doesn't feel like she is like the others. She doesn't fee that she would have the right amount of courage or wit to pass the test. "What is they tell me I'm not cut out for any fraction!" She doesn't want to disappoint herself and the people that's coil ding on her. I also believe that she wants to be like her friends, doesn't want to look like a weird chick that is hopeless compared to her peers.

    3. I think that people could change, just like the narrator being picked or categorized as a divergent age had the power to change and do to be as dangerous as people think. "My conclusion is that you display equal aptitude of Abnegation, Dauntless, and Erudite" (pg 22). With her having equal anoints if everything she can't change up and choose what she wants to be.

  8. Why is being Divergent bad?
I believe being divergent is bad because the government and society believe that if a person is divergent then there automatically considered dangerous. Someone that is divergent cannot adapt to one certain way of thinking, that’s why faction leaders might be terrified because they are capable of doing more things than anyone else in a different faction can do. A divergent is fully aware when there in a rough situation which they are able to calm down and continue onto the next scenario there placed in. To the society and government a divergent is able to do everything the 5 factions can, they don’t just pass the test for one faction but for all five. “Divergent is extremely dangerous. You understand?” I think when Tori told Beatrice that she knew that being able to be accepted in every faction was bad.

    1. being a divergent could be dangerous due tot he fact that she can choose to be whatever she wants. Beatrice can be apart of any fraction and conform to the fraction without any issue." you have and even balance of amity, candor, abnegation, erudite and dauntless" in this society they fear people having different ways to express their freewill. If everyone was able to express their freewill in this society they feel that it would lead to complete ciaos.

  9. When they use the phrase "Fraction over Family" in what way will that change the action of the initiates?
The initiates have learned to be decanted to their fraction, what goes on in their fraction then have learned to keep it to themselves. this phrase have motivated them to be the best they can be, they have set a goal to react the top and be accepted by their new fraction. "the first jumper, kind of get stuck in your head" when Beatrice was the first to jump, she have set the impression of leaving her own fraction behind; trying to understand and grow on a new fraction. Beatrice have quickly learned that you have to put your fraction over your family when she learned that she have to work with and have others backs in her new fraction.

    1. When the phrase "Faction Over Family" this basically shows that the people in this society don't believe in loyalty. This is why I believe that Beatrice had such a hard time trying to figure out which faction she should be apart of or if she should live the current faction she is in. On page 24 she states, "But choosing a different faction means I forsake my family. Permanently." She is unable to choose an appropriate faction for herself because she is struggling with the concept of loyalty which wasn't instilled in her society.

  10. have the first level of inanition affected Beatrice?
Inanition have changed Beatrice she have learned to be decanted to her fraction, she has to learn to conform and leave the habits that she have acquired from her old fraction behind. she has learned to take more risk and trust herself a lot more. "do they have to be so affectionate in public?... don't be such a stiff." by her not approving of public display of affection shows that she hasn't fully separated from her previous fraction. throughout the rest of the book Beatrice will have to learn to have courage and learn to out grow all the old habits she have develop from her previous fraction

  11. Is being in the fraction "divergent" bad?

I believe that when a person is consider as being divergent its a dangerous because it is not apart of one of the main fraction that is in the society. In this society not fitting in a place is a bad thing because everyone suppose to be apart of one fraction and act like their fraction, being yourself in this society is not an option everybody have to act exactly the same. When Beatrice was describing the way her society worked and how everything is the same "The reason for the simplicity isn't disdain for uniqueness, as the other fraction have sometimes interpreted it." She is basically say that each fraction is different from each other and when you are in that fraction you have to act like the people that is in your fraction and not like nobody us and follow the laws that is in your fraction.

  12. Can being a factionless have its benefits ?

If being a factionless keeps people from interacting with the society , than it will be positive for some who don't want to be apart of this society which involves the five factions. In the book where it states, " This is where the factionless live. Because they failed to complete the initiation into whatever faction they chose, they live in poverty, doing the work no one else wants to do..." (25) The factionless are basically the people who are on the lower part of the hierarchy in this society but they don't have the stress on tem to participate in the long term test and things as such in his society. So in reality do they have a positive life or not without any of the stress of this choosing life style ?

  13. what would happen if everyone knew that beatrice was divergent?

i think that if anybody knew that she was divergent they would treat her as if she was fraction-less because these people don't fit into the society because they are threat. They don't fit into the ideal community that they government want to be created. When Beatrice was finish taking her test, the lady who was testing her told, " this is different...i mean you should never share with anyone, ever, no matter what happens. Divergence is extremely dangerous." Everyone would treat her different like she don't belong to the society because this fraction is very rare.

  14. Is Four trying to help Beatrice or embarrase her?

I think Four is trying to help Beatrice in proving Eric wrong. That she is able to be as tough as him and ruthless. In the novel, "Divergent", by Veronica Roth. In this part of the story Roth explains Beatrice encounter with Eric. Beatrice decides to stand up for Al who has to stand in front of a wall while Four throws Knives at him. After replacing Al and being cut in the ear bye a Knife throw by Four. Four states, "Catch on? Catch on to what? That you wanted to prove to Eric how tough you are? That you're sadistic, Just like he is?" (165). By throwing the Knife and cutting Beatrice ear. His proving to Eric that Beatrice is just as tough as him. Which proves, Four is helping Beatrice.

  16. I think Beatrice is very nervous because she have to be loyal to her faction and choose who she wants to be. This will be a hard time for her because if she don't stay loyal to her faction then her family would disown her and not speak to her at all because she didn't pick to say to her faction that she have been in. One of her father's coworker son had left the Abnegation for the dauntless and his coworker Marcus was very devastated. In the text Beatrice said, " Tomorrow, those qualities will struggle within me, and only one can win(37). Beatrice have to make a hard decision if she wants to say loyal to family or choose to grow from them. She don't want to be a disappointment to her family but at the same time she want to be her own person and probably move to a different faction.

  17. Do you think Beatrice made the right choose of her new faction?

I do think Beatrice choose the faction that was right for her because she is really brave and says everything that come to her mind because she is very curious and want to know everything like a Dauntless person would do. When she was taking her test and the dog was about to attack the the little girl and she jumps onto the dog i so she won't get hurt, this was a brave move that she have done and this something a dauntless person who do because they are not scared of nothing. In the text it states, " Not running from the dog" The dog was grueling at her in the beginning and choose not to run or anything instead she got on ground level with the dog and look the dog in his eyes and the dog began to lick her. Therefore, he choosing dauntless was the best move because she do fearless things, anyone else would have ran from the dog.

  18. Do you think Four has a suspicion that Beatrice might be Divergent?

I believe Four does have a feeling that Beatrice maybe Divergent. Throughout the book Beatrice has over come many challenges that Four has throw at her. After putting Beatrice in a glass box. The box beings to fill with water. By doing this Four wants to see if she is what he think she. Beatrice is able to escape the tank. The book states, "I suspected it last time, but this time its obvious. You manipulated the simulation; you're Divergent. I'll delete the footage, but unless you want to wind up dead at the bottom of the chasm, you'll figure out how to hide it during the simulations! Now, if you'll excuse me" (255). Four assumptions were correct about Beatrice being Divergent but, he decides to help her even though she maybe an target in the Fraction.

    In reply to Mahdee's question:
i do think that four will find out about Beatrice being a divergent and i do think four will be the person who will help her hide being a divergent from other people, and the leaders of her faction. "'you're divergent' 'whats divergent?'... ill delete the footage, but unless you want to wind up dead at the bottom of the chasm, you'll figure out how to hide if during simulations'" (255). this shows that four is trying to help her hide the fact that she is a divergent. tori is also a person that she can go to that will help her hide being a divergent from others.

  20. Do Trice miss being with Abnegation?

I think Trice do like being with the Abnegation people because she keep reminiscing all the things that she have done when she was with her family when she was Abnegation. She was talking about the ceremony that they have every year and how she is missing the one this year, Trice is still miss being with Abnegation because she really unsure of why she have picked to be apart of the Dauntless faction. Trice said " Abnegation is what I am" (379). She is Abnegation at heart and miss the ways and things they use to do things. She under that she is dauntless now but she stil dont know if she have mad the right choose.

  21. Do you think Tris will be able to trust anyone again?

I dont believe so because, her own friends almost killed her. In the book "Divergent" Trips is being attacked by her "friends" Al, Peter, Drew which the three planned to throw her in the chasm after her beating her up but told Four they're only trying to scare. After Four arrives he states, "you'll have tp rely on your friends for now on to protect. If you dont want to be attacked again" (283). By stating this to Tris she beings to doubt her friendship with anyone because, her friends tried to murder her.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Why does Al turn on Tris?

Through out the book Al has been at the bottom of the rankings and to see a female put out do him. May had cause him to attack her along with Drew and Peter because of their jealous of her. In the book "Diveregnt" Tris is in Fours room recovering from the attack that happened earlier to her. Four states, "He hurt you because your strength made him feel weak. No other reason" (285). Four explains to her the only reason they choose to attack her was because she was highest rank. In the start of the book her mom told her not to be topped ranked because she can possibly become a target to everyone.

  23. TANIA W:

I sent you the first homework blog on Friday this is the 2nd and 3rd one.
    2) when tris went I go see her brother and takes to him about the faction that he have chosen do you think he was being bias to his new faction or is it new discoveries that he have made, which have provoked he's decision?
I think the Caleb always belonged in erudite just like how tris have always belonged in dauntless. He have alway been about making discoveries and he felt like in his old faction he wasn't able to be exposed to different discoveries that he are now. "How much do I know? How much did they allow me to know?...and here, information is free, it's always available" (354). He feels that because of his experience in his new Faction compare to his old faction he sees a huge difference and that what made him disagree with tris.
    3) With tris and four growing closer do you think that he will protect her more?
I think that four have always liked tris and have always tried to protect her but because of him finding out that she was a divergent he haven't been protecting her from people finding out; he left that up to tris to figure out on her own. But I think that he have been protecting here from the other member that she is competing against. "I was protecting you this morning. How do you think peter and his idiot friends would have reacted if they discovered that you and I were..." (366). This shows that four doesn't want anyone thinking that he was playing favorites with tris which is why she was ranked first.
